The True Meaning of Caregiving

At last, our graduation for our caregiver course was finally held yesterday (October 1) at Urduja Hotel, Urdaneta City. But I was a little saddened coz two of my classmates didn’t attended the rites for two different reasons. One is about financial matters and the other one is more of emotional reasons brought by a lil complaint of her about the awarding. Considering the bright side of the story, my friend Richelle, my honey and I got an award! By the way, I dropped by my new web journal coz I would like to share what I’ve learned when I took my caregiver course.

Most Filipinos take caregiver course as their stepping stone to earn DOLLARS, make their lives better and hopefully, become an immigrant in other country particularly Canada or USA. I got to admit, I used to be one of them. But my perception was changed after I finished my On-the-Job Training (OJT) and graduated my caregiver course. I realized the importance of healthcare not just a form of earning money but a good practice for our own family. Having the knowledge and skills of the basic life support and first aid such as CPR, choking, bandages and applying tourniquet is a huge help in case of emergencies and accidents. Moreover, a medical practitioner whether a doctor, nurse, PT or a caregiver must have a faith that his/her patient will surpass the present sickness that she/he has. This will be achieved by giving GENUINE CARE to the patient, to the weary and the poor … mostly are abandoned children and elderly. Genuine care doesn’t only rely on a medical practitioner-patient relationship but also in an educational institution and different agencies where students spread their wings for knowledge. These establishments MUST give the needs of their students and OJT trainees particularly the knowledge and skills, some considerations and be a good example of a real professional, for students look up into them.

I believe that if each of us has this GENUINE CARE in our hearts and unselfishly share this to other, I can say that we have a better world to live in. But sad to say… I never seen this in my 25 years of existence… perhaps this is just a dream that it will take so long to become reality. Hope this post appeals to you.
