salva: hmmmnnn, my journal becomes even more BORING hehehe! No time to post some sound entries... been busy collecting via calls... hehehe! I haven't sum it up how much (in US Dollars) I was able collect since July 25. Nyway, that's all the fun stuff in my life here =)

WoWoWee First Anniversary's Tragedy

A supposed-to-be happy celebration of WoWoWee's 1st Anniversary turned into a tragic incident. It shocked the Philippines particularly ABS-CBN early morining last Saturday (February 4). A stampede(around 6AM) at the gate of ULTRA (venue) in Pasig City caused 74 deaths and 627 injured Filipinos.

WoWoWee is one of local TV shows I'm watching. The show is entertaining and in a way gives money to the least fortunate Filipinos thru Pera o Bayong and other games. The show is actually supported by the The Filipino Channel (TFC) subscribers thru US $ and other foreign currency donations. I was doing my laundry last Saturday when I've heard the news. Volume of Filipinos went to ULTRA to try their luck for the following prices:

20 tricycles
3 taxis
Php 2M cash

In addtion to the above listed prizes is a total of US$ 16,000 is about to dispense on the said Anniversary thru raffle ticket distributed to the audience (Source: TV Patrol Sabado). But a sudden twist of fate devastated a lot of people including me.

Based on the fact-finding commission (Task Force ULTRA) and some sociologists, the manifestations below caused the stampede:

Unanticipated volume of audience, poor coordination between the concerned organizations and negligence. The WoWoWee Management did not anticipated the worse scenario, ULTRA can accomaodate 10,000 but the audiences' number is almost 30,000. So ULTRA is a small venue. Poor coordination among the concerned organizations (WoWoWee Mgmt. ABS-CBN and PNP Pasig) is also caused it.
Poor barricade prior to the gate of ULTRA that supposed to control the flow of audience going inside the venue. It collapsed.
The sloping-downwards structural design at the gateway of ULTRA. Because of the push of the people at the back, the people in front experienced a somino effect of fall because of tbe pull of gravity. It's so sad that old women were stepped coz of the stampede.
Poverty in the Philippines which was worsen by 10% VAT + 2% E-VAT (I hope R-VAT won't no longer be implemented). Although an interviewd sociologist said not all poverty is not the main reason for some audience is not even categorized as poor but the GREEDINESS FOR MONEY and LACK OF DISCIPLINE had caused it too.

The tragic event awaken people worldwide. Pope Benedict XVI extended its condolences to the victims yesterday. If you wanna read more about the sad event, check out the following links:

UPDATES--> The families of the 73 people died in this stampede receives contiunous support from ABS-CBN and other NGOs. In fact there were social workers monitoring their progress. The project was called Dream 73. However, the investigation about the said incident is still ongoing.
